Things got heated at the White House press briefing on Monday between White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and reporter April Ryan, who kept asking whether President Donald Trump is courting danger by contradicting his own administration’s lawyers about the nature of his proposed travel ban.

Raw Story reported that Ryan was asking about Trump’s tweets about his travel ban that he sent out Monday morning despite the fact that she said his administration’s lawyers had advised against it. Ryan clearly thought she had backed Sanders into a corner, but she ended up being dead wrong.

“How is the president not contradicting this administration when he tweets out ‘travel ban’… how is he not contradicting himself when he’s trying to get this thing through the Supreme Court?” Ryan asked.

“I don’t know how many times I have to answer this question today, but I’ll try to do it one more time,” Sanders replied. “I think the president isn’t concerned with what you call it. He’s concerned with national security and protecting people in this country.”

Ryan continued to press Sanders on this, but her efforts quickly backfired.

“He’s not concerned with being politically correct!” Sanders fired back. “He’s concerned with protecting the American people! I mean, that’s the bottom line here, and he’s going to take whatever step he can to move that agenda forward.”
