The city of Baltimore, Maryland has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. However, these laws have done nothing to lower the gun crime rate there.
The ineffectiveness of these gun laws was proven once again this week, as Baltimore tried to hold a “Nobody Kill Anyone” weekend. The event was supposed to be a ceasefire that lasted 72 hours. However, Baltimore could not even make it a full day before someone was murdered.
Reuters reported that a 37-year-old man was shot and killed in Baltimore just before 10pm on Saturday. A few hours before that, a 24 year-old man was shot and killed in Baltimore. This comes after 204 people were shot dead in Baltimore during the first seven months of 2017.
Baltimore Ceasefire’s organizers took to Facebook after the first killing to say that they will not stop their mission.
“It’s not that we EITHER keep celebrating life this weekend OR honor the life that has been lost to violence today,” the post read. ” … We will honor the life that was lost to violence, and raise our vibration even higher, and keep celebrating life.”
“The victory in #BaltimoreCeasefire is not whether someone got shot or not – it’s that so many ppl mobilized to say ‘we are tired! No more,'” added Rev. Grey Maggiano, a rector at the Memorial Episcopal Church in Baltimore.
Even though shootings did occur, activists still held marches, cookouts and vigils on Saturday night, paying tribute to the city’s murder victims and hugging residents affected by the violence.
This shows that despite what liberals will tell you, stricter gun laws actually will not lower gun crime rates. “Bad guys” are always going to get their hands on guns, regardless of whether it’s legal to do so or not.
